Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a MOXI Laser Treatment?

MOXI laser treatment is a non-ablative procedure that promotes new cell growth, corrects uneven pigmentation, and improves skin tone and texture.

The treatment relies on getting the body to rebuild collagen, which reduces fine lines and wrinkles. This improves the overall structure and look of the skin.

How does it work?

MOXI laser creates micro-coagulation zones in the skin with microscopic non-ablative fractionated laser energy. In simpler terms, it gently warms the underlying layers of your skin, without causing any harm to the surface. This triggers the body’s repair process, so damaged cells are replaced with new ones. Your body will naturally generate fresh collagen, having a rejuvenating result.

Can MOXI laser treat melasma?

Yes, MOXI laser is known to be effective in treating melasma.

Melasma is hyperpigmentation that can be caused by UV radiation, pregnancy, hormonal imbalance, and contraceptive use.

Traditional laser treatments can also further trigger it due to the heat they produce. However, the gentle nature of the MOXI laser treatment actually reduces melasma symptoms, leaving patients with healthy, glowing skin.

Does it hurt?

MOXI laser is a gentle treatment that’s quite comfortable. Providers apply a numbing cream to the target area to make the procedure as pain-free as possible.

How many MOXI treatments do I need?

To get the full effect of the MOXI laser treatment, clients will need to get at least three to four sessions in the beginning. They’ll also need to follow up with two to four treatments in the following years to maintain the healthy condition of their skin.

The exact number of needed sessions will vary depending on your skin concerns and conditions. Make sure to discuss the treatments and schedule with your skin technician, and attend all follow-ups to ensure optimum results.

How long before I see results?

While results vary based on intensity and treatment goals, most patients can expect results from their first treatment within three to five days.

Within this period, the skin may be quite dry and rough. It may even show visible microdots called “mendz.” All of this is a part of the repair process. As the target area recovers, the skin will also start to darken before eventually sloughing off. That’s when you’ll finally see the results of the treatment.

What should I avoid before a MOXI treatment?

Do not expose the treated area to too much sun, tanning beds/creams/sprays, depilatory creams, waxing, and similar treatments for at least 14 days before treatment.

Minimize use of blood thinners, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, fish oils, etc., for at least a week before your scheduled session. You must also discontinue skincare products containing retinol or tretinoin 4 days prior to treatment.

On the day of the treatment, you simply need to show up without any makeup on your neck or face.

What is the step-by-step process?

A MOXI face treatment begins with an initial consultation, during which photos of your skin will be taken. Your technician will then apply a numbing cream on the target area to help make the treatment more comfortable for you.

The primary treatment has various intensity levels. The key differentiators for each are the level of improvement in your skin and the downtime you will need after the treatment.

Regardless of your chosen intensity, the procedure will only last about 15 minutes. This goes for all treatment areas which includes the neck, chest, hands, arms, legs and face.

What does the post-care involve?

Caring for your skin after a MOXI laser treatment is relatively simple. Refrain from applying makeup for 24 hours. And most importantly, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection of SPF 30+ or higher.

You can also expect your face to feel warm for a few hours or up to 24 hours after the treatment, depending on the intensity of your session. These are normal MOXI laser side effects and can be dealt with using cold compresses and a mineral water spray.

You might notice some redness after the first three days, but don’t worry! Within a week, your skin will be looking fabulously healthy and vibrant.

Be sure to continue with gentle cleansing and regular moisturizing of the treated areas.

What should I avoid after a treatment?

It is important to minimize going out in the sun to prevent stressing your skin while it’s healing from the MOXI treatment. If you must step out, make sure you are conscious about wearing and reapplying sunscreen at regular intervals. You can further protect your skin by wearing a hat and protective clothing.

You may experience some discomfort in the affected area while it’s healing but do not pick or scratch at the skin. You can take Tylenol or ibuprofen to ease any discomfort. Do not get shampoo or aim a harsh shower stream on the affected area in the first few days.

Another thing you should avoid is strenuous exercise along with any workout that might trigger excessive sweating. You can continue with your workouts as usual after three days.

Can MOXI be combined with other treatments?

Yes, MOXI skin treatment can be used in combination with other procedures. One popular combination is the BBL + MOXI laser, also known as the Kim K Combo, which can help improve the tone and texture of your face and body.
