Women who want to look younger have been undergoing microneedling treatments for years. Though it first emerged as early as 1905, the procedure has become increasingly popular in recent years as people strive for younger-looking skin.

In a nutshell, microneedling entails pricking the skin with fine needles, creating micro-wounds that promote healing while encouraging the cells to produce new skin. The result is smoother skin with better texture. It’s an effective way to get rid of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, and other skin imperfections.

An upgrade to traditional microneedling treatments is radio frequency (RF) microneedling. Anyone considering microneedling should really consider microneedle RF. This is because combining microneedling with radio frequency maximizes collagen growth and collagen reorganization.

Unlike laser treatments that provide similar results, many prefer radio frequency microneedling due to the fact that it requires less downtime, is cheaper, and is less invasive.

Two of today’s most popular RF microneedling devices are the Sylfirm X and Morpheus 8. Both are state-of-the-art instruments that have garnered significant popularity in the aesthetics industry. So if you’re thinking of getting this treatment done, you’ll no doubt want to make an informed decision. So which device is superior? Before we answer that question, let’s take a closer look at microneedling with radio frequency.

What Is RF Microneedling?

We’ve already covered what microneedling is: the controlled creation of small wounds that encourage the healing process. As your skin recovers, it produces a surge of collagen and elastin, encouraging fresh new skin to emerge.

So, what happens when you combine this treatment with radio frequency? During radiofrequency microneedling, the needle doesn’t just puncture the skin. It also emits a radio frequency that causes an additional degree of tissue damage to enhance microneedling’s healing effects.

For those of you who are wondering about its price, the average RF microneedling cost is around $1,000 per session. Please see our treatments page for the most up-to-date pricing.

Now that we have a good idea of what RF microneedling is, let’s learn more about Morpheus8 and SylfirmX.

Overview of Morpheus 8

Manufactured by Inmode, a company in Israel, Morpheus 8 can work up to 4 millimeters below the skin’s surface. Since it’s excellent for targeting fat cells, it’s an ideal device for ridding your body of fat deposits that are below the neck.

It also works well at tightening skin and making thin skin look less wrinkled. In addition to the face and neck, Morpheus treatment can thus be done on the chest, elbows, arms, legs, abdomen, and buttocks.

If you opt for Morpheus 8 treatments, know that you may experience some discomfort, especially if the areas being treated are the face and neck. You will also need a series of treatments to fully achieve your desired results.

Morpheus 8 would be one to consider if you’re worried about:

  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Mild sagging in your neck and face
  • Stretch marks and acne scars
  • Folds, fine lines, and wrinkles
  • Large pores
  • Sun damage

Overview of Sylfirm X

Sylfirm X is a product of Viol, a South Korean company. Also offering minimally invasive treatments, the device increases the skin’s health by improving its form and structure. It can also address a wide range of issues such as melasma and rosacea—two concerns that are notoriously difficult to treat.

This versatile skincare solution offers a multitude of benefits, including skin tightening, redness reduction, pore minimization, and overall improvement of skin texture and appearance. Following treatment, one can expect a revitalized complexion with increased firmness, hydration, and reduced appearance of acne scarring and fine lines.

Unlike laser treatments, microneedling is known for working on all skin tones, including people with darker skin pigments. In this regard, Sylfirm X excels. It is so reliable that it can even work on people with tattoos.

Another advantage of Sylfirm is it’s easy to determine how many treatments you’ll need. The rule of thumb is one treatment for every decade of your age. That means that if you’re 40 years old, you’ll need four sessions.

Sylfirm X can effectively address:

  • Rosacea, melasma, and redness
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Stretch marks and acne scars
  • Sagging skin
  • Vascular pigmentation

Now that we’ve had a good overview of the two devices, let’s compare them.

Sylfirm X vs. Morpheus 8: Side by Side

Most of our clients who come to us for RF microneedling ask about safety, results, how fast recovery is, and the levels of discomfort they’ll experience. So, to make your decision easier, here’s what you can expect from both:

#1. Safety

Sylfirm X gets the lead here given that the treatment is precise and the direction of the RF energy can be controlled. Additionally, the chances of burns and hyperpigmentation are significantly lower. Plus, only the Sylfirm X device has been approved for use around the eye area and even over the eyelid.

#2. Customization

Sylfirm X outshines Morpheus 8 here since practitioners can adjust the treatment as needed. Each person’s skin is different so Sylfirm’s customization features make it more effective in targeting different problem areas.

Sylfirm X is also more versatile because it can be used to address a wider range of skin concerns.

#3. Recovery and Comfort

Again, it’s another win for Sylfirm X because it’s much more comfortable than Morpheus 8. Although Morpheus 8 is a non-invasive treatment, patients generally observe more discomfort during their procedures with this device. This is mostly due to the fact that the Morpheus needles are thicker than Sylfirm X.

Note, however, that whether you go for Morpheus 8 or Sylfirm X, our providers do their best to minimize pain by applying numbing agents to the treatment areas.

The results of Sylfirm treatments are also more predictable, instant, and last longer. Treatments can be easily repeated to enjoy their results for longer.

Also here at Contour Clinique, we offer exosomes alongside all of our microneedling treatments. Notably, exosomes are an integral component of our Sylfirm X treatments. Our proprietary Exosomes regenerative complex features a potent blend of over 5 billion stem cells derived lyophilized exosomes, growth factors, peptides, and other beneficial compounds. This advanced formulation is clinically proven to accelerate the healing process, while simultaneously promoting the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin.

Our Verdict: Sylfirm X for the Win

Overall, we believe that Sylfirm X is the better technology. It’s safer, more customizable, and less painful compared to Morpheus X.
